A Plea to Santa from the Minnesota Twins Fans
Dear Santa,
We, the loyal fans of the Minnesota Twins, have been incredibly dedicated this year, and we believe we deserve some special gifts. We admit, we've had our fair share of complaints about the team's performance, and ESPN even labeled us as the most disgruntled fanbase in baseball. But hear us out, Santa, it's all out of love!
We've been through a rough patch, and we simply want to see our beloved Twins succeed and know that the ownership shares our passion. We've been there, watching the games, cheering from our living rooms (a blessing we've regained), and proudly sporting Byron Buxton jerseys. Surely, our unwavering support warrants some rewards, doesn't it?
First on our wishlist is a revamp of the offseason. We desperately need two reliable relievers. Derek Falvey's decision to part ways with our previous relievers left us longing for new ones. We assure you, Santa, we adore relievers! We want them to be a consistent part of our game, even if Pablo Lopez decides to pitch a complete game (but we won't push our luck). We don't ask for the crème de la crème; just a couple of relievers we can confidently showcase to visiting teams. Perhaps Seranthony Dominguez and Danny Coulombe could be a feasible and affordable option?
Additionally, Santa, we're yearning for another powerful bat. Jeremy Zoll hinted at acquiring another impactful bat, and we're holding him to that! Ideally, a right-handed batter would balance our lineup and save our lefties from facing formidable southpaws, which hasn't been their forte. Marcell Ozuna has been on our radar for a while; maybe he'd consider joining the Twins?
Furthermore, we kindly request that the Twins trade Trevor Larnach and assign James Outman elsewhere. They're great players, but they don't quite fit the team's dynamic, hindering the Twins from reaching their full potential.
Santa, if the Twins struggle to find suitable free agents to bolster the team for 2026, we understand if they need to trade. Trading Simeon Woods Richardson for Coby Mayo or a young first baseman could be a sensible move. We'd love to avoid the annual ritual of signing a new first baseman.
Santa, we believe you'll agree that granting these wishes would make the offseason much more bearable. We know other teams might be getting more, but we're grateful for any improvements.
Even after the season begins, we have a few more requests. Our primary concern is that the front office makes wise decisions. We don't want the Twins to field players like Mickey Gasper, Ryan Fitzgerald, Ryan Kreidler, or Edouard Julien if it means keeping promising prospects in Triple-A Saint Paul. We understand the appeal of a fun team, but the Twins deserve a more competitive roster than the Saints.
We know you typically deliver gifts once a year, but stores are promoting 'Christmas in July,' which we think might refer to the trade deadline. If so, we have a few suggestions for that time, too. If the Twins are performing well, and Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez, and Gabriel Gonzalez are excelling, could you nudge Tom Pohlad to approve a payroll increase? Not Trevor Richards' payroll, but enough to acquire the missing pieces to propel the Twins deep into October. We've been conserving prospect capital, and it's time to invest, isn't it?
Lastly, Santa, we know this might seem ambitious, but we're already thinking about next year. Once the Twins assess their strengths by letting the younger players shine this season, we want them to make bold moves to build a formidable team. This would demonstrate the ownership's commitment to us fans, just as Tom Pohlad promised.
Sincerely,
The Minnesota Twins Fans
P.S. We know this isn't your area of expertise, but could you do us a favor? Could you have a word with General Health? We know you're close, and he's not a Twins fan, but if he could keep Buxton, Royce Lewis, Luke Keaschall, Joe Ryan, Walker Jenkins, and Emmanuel Rodriguez in good health, we'd be forever grateful. He's been a bit harsh on them lately.
