Reno's swim team made a splash at the state championships, with standout Addison Sala leading the way. Sala, a senior, showcased her talent by claiming two gold medals in the 5A state championship swim meet. Her victories in the 200 IM and 100 back events were a fitting end to her high school swimming career, as she will now represent Alabama in college. Sala's success is a testament to her dedication and skill, and it's no surprise that she's headed to a top-tier program.
But it's not just about individual achievements; the team's performance is equally impressive. Reno finished in second place with 63 points, just behind Coronado's 105 points. This demonstrates the team's depth and collective strength, as multiple swimmers stepped up to contribute.
The state championships also highlighted the talent emerging from Northern Nevada. Galena's Marni Kraemer and Liliana Quevedo, as well as Carson's Hannah Ingram and Larkin Russell, all made their mark with impressive finishes. Mila Rabinowitz from Reno and Addie Schaller from Truckee also shone, securing second places in their respective events.
The 3A division saw Truckee dominate, winning multiple relays and individual events. Hayley Hynes and Neveah Hubert stood out for Truckee, while North Tahoe's Aria Rocco and Coral Academy's Maryniya Sirhan also made their presence felt. Debbie Smith's Hailee Walker and Makenna Tolan rounded out the top finishers, showcasing the depth of talent across the state.
This championship meet was a celebration of swimming excellence, with Reno and its talented athletes leaving their mark. Addison Sala's success is a personal triumph, but it also reflects the strength of the Reno swim team and the potential for future success in the sport.
