Symptoms of salmonella infection can include headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms typically appear within 6 to 72 hours of exposure and can last for several days. However, for some, especially those with compromised immune systems, the illness can be more severe and require medical attention.

"Most people recover within a week by resting and staying hydrated," Glasgow assures. "But infants, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness and may need antibiotics or even hospitalization."
